31. Monsanto: El Legado del Mal Heredado a Bayer

En este episodio hablamos de Monsanto, la que fue la compañía líder en la venta de productos químicos, bioquímicos y semillas hasta 2018 cuando fue adquirido por Bayer y dejó de existir.
Esta compañía tiene el sobrenombre de Monsatan en redes sociales y es la responsable detrás de Round Up, el pesticida que acumuló más de 170,000 demandas por ser la causa de Cáncer, en específico Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma o Linfoma de Hodgkin en sus usuarios. Monsanto y Bayer, han pagado en total $10,900 mdd en acuerdos hasta el día de hoy y tiene aún $1,500 mdd en reserva para futuros pagos de las 4,300 demandas que tiene pendientes.
El hilo conductor de esta historia es: una empresa que a través de más de 100 años de historia demostró que los ingresos son más relevantes que el bienestar de sus clientes, y que, sabiendo el daño que hacían sus productos, continuaron vendiéndolos mientras la demanda se los permitía.
Pasaremos por las distintas eras de productos de Monsanto, desde los PCBs y los DDTs, hasta los famosos pesticidas, terminando con la historia de los alimentos transgénicos y el involucramiento de Monsanto en éstos.
