Pablo d’Ors en Biografía del silencio. «Hasta que decidí practicar la meditación con todo el rigor del que fuera capaz había tenido tantas experiencias a lo largo de mi vida que había llegado a un punto en que, sin temor a exagerar, puedo decir que no sabía bien ni quién era: había viajado a muchos países; había leído miles de libros; tenía una agenda con muchísimos contactos y me había enamorado de más mujeres de las que podía recordar. Como muchos de mis contemporáneos, estaba convencido de que cuantas más experiencias tuviera y cuanto más intensas y fulgurantes fueran, más pronto y mejor llegaría a ser una persona en plenitud. Hoy sé que no es así: la cantidad de experiencias y su intensidad solo sirve para aturdimos. Vivir demasiadas experiencias suele ser perjudicial. No creo que el hombre esté hecho para la cantidad, sino para la calidad. Las experiencias, si vive uno para coleccionarlas, nos zarandean, nos ofrecen horizontes utópicos, nos emborrachan y confunden. Hoy sé que conviene dejar de tener experiencias, sean del género que sean, y limitarse a vivir: dejar que la vida se exprese tal cual es, y no llenarla con los artificios de nuestros viajes o lecturas, relaciones o pasiones, espectáculos, entretenimientos, búsquedas. Todas nuestras experiencias suelen competir con la vida y logran, casi siempre, desplazarla e incluso anularla. La verdadera vida está detrás de lo que nosotros llamamos vida».
