Sin embargo, Vidal argumenta que los acontecimientos posteriores no han respondido a esas expectativas y cuestiona que Washington tenga como prioridad inmediata provocar un cambio político en ambos países. En el caso venezolano, César Vidal afirma que la Administración Trump ha mantenido estructuras vinculadas al chavismo mientras negocia condiciones favorables para el acceso estadounidense al petróleo y otros recursos naturales. También comenta las declaraciones de Trump sobre la falta de preparación de Venezuela para celebrar elecciones y las informaciones que retrasarían considerablemente una eventual convocatoria electoral. Respecto a Cuba, el programa analiza la aparente contradicción entre el endurecimiento de las restricciones energéticas contra La Habana y el crecimiento de determinadas exportaciones estadounidenses hacia la isla. Según los datos citados en el editorial, empresas norteamericanas habrían exportado combustible por decenas de millones de dólares mediante operaciones atribuidas al sector privado cubano. También se examinan las ventas de vehículos y repuestos y el importante incremento de los envíos humanitarios procedentes de ONG, iglesias y otras organizaciones. Vidal amplía el análisis con una reflexión sobre las expectativas acumuladas durante décadas entre los exiliados. Recuerda las sucesivas predicciones sobre una caída inminente del régimen cubano y establece un paralelismo con las esperanzas depositadas posteriormente en figuras de la oposición venezolana y, más recientemente, en la intervención de Estados Unidos. El editorial concluye señalando que la frustración actual nace, en buena medida, de unas expectativas que considera poco realistas sobre las intenciones de Washington. César Vidal invita a no caer en el desánimo y recupera la reflexión inicial de Eric Hoffer: las grandes decepciones aparecen cuando se deposita demasiada esperanza en quienes finalmente no actúan como se esperaba.
