Rory opens with the story of joining Gravitee during the pandemic, taking a fifty percent pay cut to bet on a four-person company he believed in after using the software himself, and scaling it to over 180 employees and forty million in revenue. He then makes a sharp argument: traditional API gateways were architected around humans as the center of gravity, and that assumption breaks the moment autonomous agents enter the picture. Agents move faster, authenticate differently, require far more granular authorization, and increasingly act on behalf of humans in ways that legacy governance tools simply were not designed to handle. To solve this, Gravitee built Gamma — a unified control plane that Rory describes as finally putting the keypad and the door in the same platform, eliminating the dangerous gap that lets agents bypass governance layers entirely. He breaks the governance crisis down into three compounding problems: no enforcement layer, no proper identity framework for non-human actors, and no reliable way to give agents the context they need to operate safely. The conversation closes with a forward-looking take on what a truly governed agentic enterprise requires — and Rory's conviction that the answer is not more rules, but a central governance control point sophisticated enough to make human-in-the-loop decisions dynamically, so that agents and humans can work in harmony rather than in competition.
