"Uno es aventurero como otro es poeta, porque tiene una visión romántica de la existencia y piensa que la vida tiene que ser algo más que simplemente pasar por el mundo". El naturalista y aventurero Nacho Dean fue la primera persona de la historia en dar la vuelta al mundo a pie y en solitario, completando un total de 31 países y 33.000 kilómetros en tres años: "Mi objetivo no fue hacer un paréntesis en mi vida, sino abrazarla más intensamente que nunca", asegura.
Años después se propuso otro reto: unir nadando los cinco continentes con el objetivo de lanzar un mensaje de conservación de océanos. Un hito que completó en la llamada 'Expedición Nemo': "El mar es el gran olvidado, se ha encontrado basura donde no llega ni la luz solar", advierte.
Hijo de marino y amante la naturaleza, de niño Nacho Dean creció leyendo a Julio Verne y viendo los documentales de Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente. De ellos aprendió su pasión por la exploración y su visión del mundo como un todo. "La naturaleza es el lugar al que pertenecemos, lo que le hacemos a la naturaleza nos lo hacemos a nosotros mismos", reflexiona. Sus expediciones le han servido para visibilizar la degradación del planeta y poner el acento sobre nuestra responsabilidad en el cambio climático.
Para él, caminar, viajar y observar son escuelas de vida porque nos enseñan que las cosas pueden ser de muchas maneras diferentes. Su inquebrantable compromiso con la naturaleza es el motor de inspiración de su día a día y lo que condiciona su visión reveladora de la existencia: "Tienes que realizar un verdadero ejercicio de desprendimiento y desapego, tienes que dejarlo todo: tu casa, el trabajo, la familia, los amigos, tus bienes materiales. También los miedos de una cultura que valora más el bienestar, el confort, la seguridad, la estabilidad, por encima de otros valores como son emprender, arriesgarse, la pasión de estar vivo".
