Para el escritor Antonio Muñoz Molina, la cultura, la educación y la sanidad son pilares fundamentales que la sociedad no puede olvidar: "Hay valores y derechos que habían quedado totalmente perdidos, y cuando ocurre algo grave nos damos cuenta de que son cruciales", asegura.
Antonio Muñoz Molina es un reconocido y galardonado escritor español, académico de la Real Academia Española desde 1996 (donde ocupa el sillón 'u minúscula') y académico de honor de la Academia de Buenas Letras de Granada. En 2013 fue galardonado con el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Letras. Estudió Historia del Arte en la Universidad de Granada y Periodismo en Madrid. Es Doctor Honoris Causa por las universidades de Jaén (España), Villanova (Pensilvania, Estados Unidos) y Brandeis (Massachusetts, Estados Unidos). Entre finales de los 80 y principios de los 90, Muñoz Molina ganó el Premio Nacional de Narrativa y el Premio de la Crítica de la Asociación Española de Críticos Literarios. También fue galardonado con el Premio Planeta por su novela 'El jinete polaco'. En el año 2013 obtuvo el Premio Jerusalén, un galardón que se concede a escritores cuyo trabajo se haya destacado por la lucha por la libertad en el contexto de la sociedad actual.
Antonio Muñoz Molina fue el director del Instituto Cervantes en Nueva York y en 2012 realizó una valiosa donación a la Biblioteca Nacional de España de una parte de sus escritos, incluyendo documentos personales, borradores de sus novelas, poemas inéditos de juventud y una obra de teatro sin publicar. También es autor de numerosos ensayos, algunos de ellos relacionados con la Historia del arte como 'El atrevimiento de mirar' (2012) y otros centrados en el análisis de la sociedad contemporánea como 'Todo lo que era sólido' (2013).
