Una frase y una actitud que, según el investigador Javier Cacho, se podría aplicar a los tiempos que vivimos. "¿Cómo eligió Shackleton a su tripulación? No eran ni los más fuertes ni los más valientes, sino los más optimistas y pacientes".
Javier Cacho es físico, científico experto en la atmósfera y escritor. En los años 70 inició su carrera investigadora y divulgadora en la Comisión Nacional de Investigación Espacial (CONIE) y el Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA), donde lideró los primeros estudios sobre la destrucción de la capa de ozono en la Antártida. Fue colaborador de la Comisión Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnología en el Programa Antártico Español, miembro de la Primera Expedición Científica Española a la Antártida en 1986 y jefe de la base antártica española Juan Carlos I.
Además de sus estudios sobre la atmósfera que contribuyeron a la concienciación sobre la necesidad de proteger la capa de ozono, lleva años investigando a los grandes exploradores polares, cuyas experiencias ha recogido en libros como 'Héroes de la Antártida', 'Yo, el Fram' y la trilogía 'Los héroes de la conquista de los Polos', ejemplos de resiliencia en situaciones extremas y tiempos de crisis.
