Episode 566: Are You Limiting Your Own Potential?
Descripción del Episodio
Are you counting yourself out before you even give yourself a real shot?
A lot of people have big goals, real ambition, and a clear idea of what they want, but they never actually try because deep down, they don't believe they could be the person who pulls it off. They look at other people who have succeeded and assume those people had something they do not, when the real difference is often much simpler: they tried, they kept going, and they believed it was possible before anyone else did.
When you start asking “Why not me?” instead of assuming success is reserved for someone else, everything changes. You stop putting other people on pedestals, you stop disqualifying yourself before the game even starts, and you start building the kind of confidence that only comes from taking action.
In this episode of Habits and Hustle, I share why the “Why not me?” mindset has made me feel unstoppable and how changing the way you see yourself can change the way you show up in every area of your life.
What's Discussed:
(00:34) Why we underestimate ourselves and overestimate the people we put on pedestals.
(01:16) How the “Why not me?” mindset can change the way you approach success.
(01:50) The real difference between the people who succeed and the people who count themselves out.
(02:02) Why self-belief still requires hard work, grit, and repeated attempts.
(02:46) Why advocating for yourself can feel uncomfortable or egotistical.
(04:29) Why people need to stop counting themselves out before they even try.
(05:51) Why some people are not lazy, they simply do not believe they are capable.
(06:10) The myth that you have to be “special” to achieve big things.
(06:50) How believing you are capable can become the thing that makes you capable.
(07:10) Why repeating the “Why not me?” mindset can rewire the way you see yourself.

The Binge Crimes: What Happened to the Harrisons?
By shows
From the outside, 3635 Pitch Pine Crescent looked like the kind of home where nothing bad could happen, the gathering place for every birthday and holiday. Until one spring night when tragedy struck. In less than five years, three people would end up dead in the same house. Each time, the authorities found a way to explain it away. But the family who loved them knew something was wrong. Host Amy Dempsey Raven, an investigative reporter for the Toronto Star, spent more than a decade asking what really happened inside that house. In The Dark
By shows
In the Dark, hosted by Madeleine Baran, is an award-winning investigative-journalism podcast that started in 2016. Its first season looked at the mysterious abduction of Jacob Wetterling in rural Minnesota and the lack of accountability that sheriffs face when they fail to solve cases. Season 2 examined the case of Curtis Flowers, who was tried six times for the same crime. In 2020, In the Dark released a special report on the coronavirus pandemic in the Mississippi Delta. In 2023, In the Dark joined The New Yorker and in 2024, it released “The Runaway Princesses,” a four-part series that asks why the women in Dubai’s royal family keep trying to run away. Season 3, released in 2024, asked why no one was punished for the killings of twenty-five civilians in Haditha, Iraq. In the Dark won the Pulitzer Prize for audio for Season 3. The podcast is a three-time Peabody Award winner and, in 2019, became the first podcast to win a George Polk Award, one of the top honors in journalism.
