El periodista José Antonio Zarzalejos ha analizado la estrategia de defensa del expresidente José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero tras su imputación, durante su intervención en el programa 'Herrera en COPE' con Carlos Herrera. Para Zarzalejos, la defensa es procesalmente previsible y hasta lógica, pero considera que políticamente no tiene un pase y supone una autodestrucción para su credibilidad.
Según el análisis ofrecido en la sección 'Sexto sentido', la estrategia de Zapatero ante el juez consistió en negar los hechos, contestar únicamente a su abogado y al magistrado, y un ataque de amnesia sobre las joyas. Zarzalejos ha señalado que las esperadas explicaciones en las que confiaban los portavoces del progresismo no se produjeron, ni en los medios ni en sede judicial.
