Daniel Matamala conversa con la abogada experta en derecho internacional Paz Zárate, y con el excanciller Alfredo Moreno. Este gobierno, incluso desde antes de asumir, convirtió a las relaciones exteriores en un brazo de su agenda ideológica, pensando más en la rencilla política interna que en los intereses permanentes de la república. Y los resultados han ido de lo mediocre a lo desastroso, y hoy tienen a su canciller bajo fuego, por críticas transversales que apuntan a su debilidad en la defensa de los intereses permanentes de nuestro país.
Se le critica por ser invisible, por improvisar, por solo saber de política comercial, pero no de política exterior. Y, más profundamente, por no poner los puntos sobre las íes antes repetidos gestos hostiles de otros países. Una incomodidad que explotó con el Foro Madrid, cuando el presidente de Argentina y el embajador de Estados Unidos se permitieron expresiones hostiles que siguen sin encontrar respuesta. Y eso no es culpa solo del canciller. Porque según la Constitución, la conducción de la política exterior de Chile recae en el Presidente de la República. Es él quien da la pauta y la guía y quien, al menos hasta ahora, no ha dado con la altura de un estadista a cargo de tan importante responsabilidad, y ha preferido simplemente quedarse a la altura del líder partidista que ve en la política exterior un arma más de la pelea pequeña del día a día.
Y mientras eso pasa, ¿quién defiende a Chile?
