En este episodio de Penitencia conocemos la historia de José Ángel, un hombre cuya vida ha sido un ciclo interminable de violencia, abandono y cárcel. A los 8 años tuvo que tomar una decisión imposible: elegir con cuál de sus padres quedarse, sabiendo que ambos lo maltrataban. Eligió a su papá porque era "el que menos le pegaba".

A los 12 años huyó de casa. A los 14 conoció el tutelar. Desde entonces, la cárcel se convirtió en una puerta giratoria: entrar, salir, delinquir, regresar. Las pandillas, la violencia extrema y el respeto construido a través del terror se volvieron su lenguaje. Durante años fue alguien temido en las calles, alguien que cometió actos que hoy reconoce con dolor.
José Ángel tiene cuatro hijos con dos mujeres diferentes. La primera se casó con otro hombre mientras él estaba preso, llevándose a sus tres hijos. La segunda, con quien tiene una niña de 9 años, acaba de dejarlo.
Ahora enfrenta una nueva sentencia de 5 a 8 años más. Dice que esta vez es diferente, que algo se movió dentro de él. Ya no consume drogas, ya no busca la violencia, pasa sus días dibujando en su celda para matar el tiempo. Su padre, quien durante toda su vida lo ha visitado en cárceles, ya está cansado y envejeciendo. José Ángel siente miedo de no volver a verlo.
Este episodio no busca justificar ni romantizar. Habla del ciclo del miedo que se transforma en agresión, del respeto construido a través del terror, de la dificultad real que hay de romper con lo único que has aprendido durante toda tu vida. También aborda la paternidad ausente, la esperanza que llega tarde y el peso de querer cambiar cuando ya hay demasiadas consecuencias acumuladas.
