Si la inteligencia artificial estuviese dotada de sentimientos, el asistente bien podría responder: "Mi abuelo". Kai-Fu Lee es el creador de Casper, el primer sistema de reconocimiento de voz que presentó Apple en el año 1992. El software era parte de su tesis doctoral en la universidad Carnegie Mellon y el antepasado de la tecnología de análisis del habla que nos rodea.
Hoy, considerado uno de los mayores expertos en inteligencia artificial del mundo, preside la firma de capital de riesgo tecnológico Sinovation Ventures. El ejecutivo taiwanés ha sido parte de los equipos de Apple, SGI, Microsoft y Google y de la unidad de investigación de Microsoft en la región de Asia y el Pacífico. Una vida dedicada al trabajo que se vio interrumpida cuando hace siete años le detectaron un cáncer. "Me di cuenta de que si me enfrentaba a la muerte, lo último que me apetecía era trabajar", reconoce. Tras esa epifanía, Lee decidió dar un cambio radical en su vida y dedicar más tiempo a sus seres queridos. Un proceso transformador que afectó también a su parecer sobre el futuro de la inteligencia artificial: "Ha venido a librar a los humanos del trabajo rutinario y a darnos tiempo para cumplir nuestro propósito en la vida", garantiza.
Lee está convencido de que en el futuro sobrevivirán los trabajos que requieran de tres habilidades humanas: "curiosidad, pensamiento crítico y creatividad". En ese sentido, el experto reclama en las aulas una educación más individualizada y con el acento en las relaciones personales. "La inteligencia artificial podría eliminar las tareas más tediosas y liberar hasta un 40% del trabajo rutinario de los profesores", afirma. En su libro 'Superpotencias de la inteligencia artificial: China, Silicon Valley y el nuevo orden mundial', Kai-Fu Lee asegura que esta transformación educativa ya se está produciendo en China. "La inteligencia artificial ha venido para darnos tiempo para pensar lo que significa ser humano", sentencia.
