Causas iniciales de la hambruna de Bengala: Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, la invasión japonesa a Birmania cortó una fuente clave de suministro de arroz para Bengala. Como respuesta militar, los británicos limitaron el transporte y priorizaron los recursos para sus tropas, desestabilizando gravemente la distribución de alimentos.
