En este episodio de Dinero Más Inteligente, Valeria Ovalle conversa con Mauricio Santos, Portfolio Manager de Renta Variable Global en GBM, para entender cómo piensa un administrador profesional, cómo distingue las señales importantes del ruido de los mercados y qué está viendo para la segunda mitad de 2026. 


Mauricio comparte cómo pasó de estudiar ingeniería industrial a construir una carrera de más de dos décadas en inversiones. Su formación comenzó en análisis, estudiando a profundidad cómo generan ingresos las empresas, sus estados financieros y sus flujos de efectivo, una experiencia que todavía utiliza al momento de construir portafolios y evaluar oportunidades. 


También recuerda algunas de sus primeras inversiones en compañías como Cemex y Pinfra, y una de las lecciones que marcaron su carrera: incluso una buena tesis de inversión puede necesitar años para materializarse. La paciencia, conocer el activo en el que inviertes y entender los riesgos son elementos fundamentales de su filosofía. 


La conversación entra después en el panorama actual de los mercados. Para Mauricio, la primera mitad del año estuvo definida por dos palabras: concentración y volatilidad. Los conflictos geopolíticos modificaron el apetito por riesgo, mientras que buena parte de los rendimientos se concentró en semiconductores y empresas relacionadas con el ciclo de inversión en inteligencia artificial. 


De cara a la segunda mitad del año, su palabra clave es consolidación. Después de las fuertes ganancias en algunos segmentos, Mauricio espera un mercado potencialmente más lateral, mientras los inversionistas evalúan las elecciones de medio término en Estados Unidos, las decisiones de la Reserva Federal y hasta dónde pueden continuar las inversiones relacionadas con inteligencia artificial. 


Uno de los grandes debates está precisamente en la IA: los hyperscalers continúan destinando enormes cantidades de capital a infraestructura, centros de datos y semiconductores, pero eventualmente tendrán que demostrar que esas inversiones pueden generar suficientes flujos y retornos. La pregunta ya no es únicamente cuánto pueden invertir, sino cuánto dinero podrán generar con todo ese CAPEX. 


Mauricio también explica por qué las tasas de interés siguen siendo uno de los principales riesgos para los mercados y por qué las elecciones estadounidenses podrían convertirse en uno de los eventos más importantes de la segunda mitad del año. 


Finalmente, comparte dónde continúa viendo oportunidades: fibras en México, activos internacionales con valuaciones más atractivas que Estados Unidos y portafolios más diversificados ante un mercado donde los ganadores de los próximos años podrían no ser los mismos que dominaron los anteriores. Además, explica cómo aplica estos mismos principios a su propio patrimonio. 


Su consejo para quienes apenas empiezan a invertir resume gran parte del episodio: entender por qué estás invirtiendo, qué riesgos estás tomando y para qué necesitas ese dinero. El conocimiento y la construcción de un portafolio alineado con tus objetivos pueden ser más importantes que intentar anticipar el próximo movimiento del mercado.
