She was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, on July 22, 1992. Her parents, Ricardo and Mandy, divorced when She was five years old, and She was raised by her mom. They didn't have a lot of money, but they were always close. Selena's parents were both supportive of her creative interests. Her mom loved to sing, and her dad was a musician. Selena started taking singing and dancing lessons when she was a young child, and she also appeared in several pageants. Selena has a younger sister named Gracie, and she is also close to her grandparents. She has spoken about how her family has always been her biggest supporters. Selena made her acting debut at the age of ten on the children's television show Barney & Friends. She played the role of Gianna for two years. After Barney & Friends, Selena guest-starred on several other television shows, including The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire. In 2007, she landed her breakout role as Alex Russo on the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place. In addition to her acting career, Selena also began to pursue a career in music. In 2009, she formed the band Selena Gomez & the Scene. The band released three studio albums, all of which were commercially successful. Selena Gomez has come a long way since her early days on Barney & Friends. She is now one of the most successful entertainers in the world.
