Isabel Muñoz: Fotografía, el poder de los pequeños gritos

"La fotografía cuenta historias y habla de sentimientos. He querido tratar el sufrimiento ajeno con mucha dignidad y mucho respeto, porque, para mí, el acto de fotografiar es un acto de amor".
La fotógrafa Isabel Muñoz lleva décadas retratando el atlas humano que nos rodea, acompañando el dolor ajeno y buscando el sentido a lo que hacemos. Desde sus primeros pasos en la Escuela Photocentro de Madrid y posteriores estudios en Estados Unidos, ha recorrido el mundo a través de las emociones, con imágenes icónicas de danza, artes marciales, tribus ancestrales y urbanas, en busca de los orígenes y la comprensión del comportamiento humano.
Su trabajo sobre "La Bestia", el tren de inmigrantes que cruza la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos, su serie sobre el tráfico y esclavitud infantil en países asiáticos y su denuncia fotográfica sobre la violencia ejercida contra mujeres y niños en la República Democrática del Congo, en colaboración con Caddy Adzuba, son algunos ejemplos del poder transformador de la fotografía.
En los últimos años, su trabajo lanza un mensaje de concienciación medioambiental, tanto en sus fotografías sobre la contaminación del mar, como en su experimentación técnica con la impresión en "coralotipias" y "nacarotipias". La obra de Isabel Muñoz ha recorrido el mundo a través de numerosas exposiciones y forma parte de colecciones museísticas permanentes, como el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, la Fundación Canal, ambas en Madrid, el Contemporary Arts Museum de Houston o la Maison Européenne de la Photographie de París. Ha recibido, entre otros galardones, varios World Press Photo y PHotoEspaña, Medalla al Mérito de las Bellas Artes 2009 y Premio Nacional de Fotografía 2016. En 2022 se convirtió en la primera fotógrafa nombrada miembro de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
