José Manuel López Nicolás mantiene las que él llama "gafas del científico" cuando disfruta de un partido de fútbol o va al supermercado. Y en su ambición divulgativa anima al público a probar esos anteojos para que "descubran la ciencia de la vida cotidiana".
Licenciado en Ciencias Químicas por la Universidad de Murcia y Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado, actualmente es Vicerrector de Transferencia y Divulgación Científica y Catedrático de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular de la misma universidad. Ha publicado más de un centenar de artículos en los campos de la bioquímica, la nutrición o la biotecnología y, en su afán de traducir la ciencia en términos comprensibles para el público, lleva una década detrás del blog 'Scientia'. Una bitácora por la que López Nicolás ha recibido numerosos premios en el ámbito de la divulgación científica. "Transferir el conocimiento a la sociedad es una herramienta imprescindible para el progreso de la humanidad", sentencia el científico.
Reconoce que la educación es "una potente herramienta de transformación". En sus aulas derrama amor por la ciencia: "Es importante que los profesores emocionemos a los alumnos para motivarlos a aprender", asegura. Pero la pasión diculgativa de José Manuel López Nicolás se expresa también en forma de libros. Los más recientes: 'Un científico en el supermercado' o 'La ciencia de los campeones', en los que relaciona diferentes disciplinas científicas con las pequeñas cosas del día a día.
