La mente de Nazareth Castellanos se quedó prendada de la idea que "el padre de la neurociencia", Santiago Ramón y Cajal, nos dejaba en sus investigaciones: "Todo hombre puede ser si se lo propone escultor de su propio cerebro". Lo que bien podría entenderse como un juego entre la arcilla y su escultor: observar, moldear, construir y deconstruir.
Conocer de qué está hecha la masa del cerebro, cuáles son sus hábitos y cómo funciona "el bosque de neuronas", son sus grandes retos, y probablemente, uno de los enigmas de nuestro tiempo: comprender cómo tan solo un kilo y medio nos hace diferentes de cualquier otro ser vivo sobre el planeta.
Su obra 'El espejo del cerebro', refleja los resultados de la práctica meditación que muestran los cambios cerebrales que suceden cuando tenemos una actitud contemplativa, amable y consciente. Conclusiones a las que llega a través de su experiencia científica en laboratorios y su continua búsqueda de conocimiento en áreas interconectadas, como la medicina, la filosofía y la espiritualidad.
Nazareth Castellanos es Física teórica y doctora en Neurociencia por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Estudia la relación cerebro-cuerpo, los mecanismos neuronales implicados en la atención, la regulación emocional y la práctica de la meditación. Así cómo la influencia del ejercicio físico en la microbiota intestinal. Desde hace varios años dirige la investigación del laboratorio Nirakara y la Cátedra Extraordinaria de Mindfulness y Ciencias Cognitivas de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, y compagina su labor de investigación con la divulgación científica creando espacios de diálogo entre Oriente y Occidente, para promover la unión entre la comunidad científica y el entorno espiritual.
