La expresión "el lado correcto de la historia" se ha instalado en el debate público, una idea que el escritor Jacobo Bergareche ha analizado en la sección ‘Traficantes de Palabras’ de 'Herrera en COPE'. A raíz de una introducción de Jorge Bustos, Bergareche ha alertado sobre el creciente uso de esta fórmula por parte de los políticos para legitimar sus acciones y descalificar a sus rivales.
Para el escritor, la apelación a la posteridad es una señal de alarma. "Cuando un líder empieza a hablar de su puesto en la posteridad, échate a temblar", ha afirmado Bergareche. Considera que esto significa que el gobernante "no gobierna bajo las normas del presente ni se somete a nuestro juicio inmediato, sino que busca la gloria o la absolución en un futuro hipotético donde ya no tiene que rendir cuentas".
