La revolución industrial supuso un impulso en el desarrollo social, económico y tecnológico de Europa, empezando por el Reino Unido y luego en el resto de los países, entre ellos España, aunque de manera más tardía debido a la guerra de la independencia y una monarquía absolutista. La industria siderúrgica y la minería fueron claves en el progreso de Asturias a mediados del siglo XIX y para hablarnos de ello contamos con la presencia de José Luis Carmona, profesor de historia contemporánea de la UNED y autor de “La crisis industrial”, quien mencionará la importancia que tuvo la fábrica de armas de Trubia, del papel que jugó la burguesía asturiana, la competencia del carbón inglés y belga, la creación de Ensidesa y Hunosa o sobre las huelgas y el sindicalismo de clase. Por su parte, Pablo Vázquez Otero, miembro de la Fundación Foro Jovellanos de Gijón, nos hablará de la contribución de Melchor Gaspar de Jovellanos en la explotación del carbón en el siglo XVIII, sus informes mineros, sus proyectos de carretera carbonera y la creación de su Real Instituto de Náutica y Mineralogía. Marcos Carrasco analizará algunos impactantes cuadros costumbristas y de “protesta” de pintores asturianos como Paulino Vicente, Mariano Moré o José Uría y Uría. David Sentinella y Jesús Callejo comentarán otros factores claves de ese proceso industrial y de tránsito de lo rural a lo urbano que tantos cambios generó. Y no faltarán audios de Pepe Rodríguez (director del podcast PepeDiario) y de Juan Ignacio Cuesta.
