500 días marcianos desde que todo se fue a la mierda. Cada vez que aparece un cruce, el miedo golpea el estómago.
El episodio abre una ventana a la soledad extrema de Ana Gutiérrez, ya convertida en la única habitante de la colonia. Sus días se miden en rituales que combinan lo cotidiano y lo desesperado: enterrar a Phobos, escuchar música, leer los libros que dejaron los colonos y sumergirse en dioramas digitales para recordar que alguna vez existió la Tierra. Pero también lidia con un descubrimiento perturbador: en los invernaderos, las mutaciones aceleradas han generado un hongo completamente nuevo, desconocido en la biología terrestre. En su aislamiento, decide probarlo en el día de su cumpleaños, aceptando que quizá nadie vendrá a rescatarla.
Bajo los efectos del hongo “marciano”, Ana vive una experiencia transformadora. Cree percibir vida en Marte, una inteligencia eléctrica y fractal que le revela el dilema fundamental del universo: la vida biológica frente a la máquina, lo orgánico frente a la simulación. Para ella, la humanidad está atrapada en ese ciclo de destrucción y renacimiento, siempre dejando que las máquinas reclamen el lugar de la vida. En medio de esa visión, Ana se asume como el último ser humano vivo, un eslabón final de una especie que fue capaz de soñar y de crear belleza, pero también de destruirse a sí misma.
Antes de despedirse, realiza un gesto simbólico: coloca flores en la plaza central, como si quisiera regalarle a la humanidad su último funeral. Luego corta la electricidad de la colonia y se encierra en su refugio, convencida de que es el fin. Pero lo que parece una alucinación se transforma en un giro inesperado: una nave aterriza en Marte. La esperanza de contacto humano reaparece, aunque pronto se tiñe de confusión y miedo.
Desde su escondite, Ana observa a los recién llegados: discuten, deliran, creen que la colonia está maldita, incluso se enfrentan a un suicidio en sus filas. Ella duda de sí misma, de si está loca o si aún sigue bajo el efecto del hongo. Pero cuando ve cómo intentan recuperar a Phobos y Deimos para llevarlos de regreso a la Tierra, comprende que debe actuar. El peligro no terminó con la muerte del robot: si esas máquinas regresan, el ciclo de destrucción podría comenzar de nuevo. Ana, última testigo, última sobreviviente, se debate entre salir a contar lo que vivió o permanecer oculta para siempre.
