Juan Carlos Unzué: "La vida siempre merece la pena"

"Soy un chico de pueblo que ha disfrutado de una vida plena". De esta manera tan sencilla, se define el exfutbolista navarro Juan Carlos Unzué. En 1986 debutó como portero en el CA.Osasuna, el equipo de su ciudad. Se mantuvo durante diecisiete temporadas en la élite del fútbol español jugando en equipos como el FC. Barcelona, el Sevilla F.C, el C.D Tenerife y el Real Oviedo, poniendo fin a su carrera en el año 2003 regresando, precisamente, al club donde comenzó. Ha sido director técnico y entrenador de porteros en varios equipos de primera división en los que ha conseguido todos los éxitos que un entrenador puede conseguir: Ligas, Copas del Rey, Copas de Europa y Mundiales de Clubs.
Juan Carlos Unzué disputa, quizá, la competición más importante de su vida: la lucha contra la esclerosis lateral amiotrófica (ELA), una enfermedad neurodegenerativa que padece desde hace varios años y que actualmente no tiene cura. "Más que preocuparme por el tiempo que me queda de vida, lo que me ocupa es que el tiempo que esté aquí tenga sentido, que merezca la pena hasta el último día".
A través de su libro 'Una vida plena', de su participación en la Fundación Luzón y gracias al apoyo y cariño incondicional de su familia, Juan Carlos se dedica en cuerpo y alma a recaudar fondos para la investigación de la enfermedad y dar a conocer a la sociedad en qué consiste, qué consecuencias tiene y, sobre todo, en qué situación están la mayoría de los "compañeros de equipo".
"Siento que esta nueva forma de darle sentido a mi vida, me produce tanta o más satisfacción que la que me produjo el deporte en cincuenta y tres años", afirma el futbolista.
