In this anonymous episode, Saskia explores some tough questions: Can we expect someone to change when they never had the tools to do it? How much of who we are comes from what we lived through? Is it possible to break violent patterns when that's all you've ever known?
This is the story of a woman who grew up surrounded by violence and crime from childhood. From age 6, she watched her stepfather beat her mother, keep guns in the house, and make his living as a thief. At 8 years old, she started visiting prison every week, normalizing a world she should never have known. When her mother died when she was 14, she was left alone and vulnerable. At 18, she got involved in kidnappings and robberies. Today she's been in prison for 10 years, separated from her two daughters who were 7 and 8 when she was arrested.
Today's episode is a conversation about justice and the possibility of transformation behind prison walls.
