En esta columna de opinión hablo sobre la muerte de Carlos Manzo, alcalde de Uruapan, asesinado el Día de Muertos. Tenía 56 años y representaba a un municipio golpeado por el crimen organizado. Su muerte es la número diez de alcaldes asesinados en Michoacán durante este sexenio.
Pero hay algo que cambió completamente la conversación: su agresor tenía entre 17 y 19 años. Un joven, posiblemente menor de edad, reclutado por el crimen organizado cuando apenas era un niño.
En Reinserta trabajamos con adolescentes en conflicto con la ley. Los datos son devastadores: 6 de cada 10 tienen familiares en el crimen, el 60% fue reclutado entre los 11 y 14 años, y el 70% terminó como sicario.

No justifico el crimen bajo ninguna circunstancia. El dolor de la familia de Carlos Manzo es irreparable. Pero debemos entender cómo llegamos a este punto: cómo un adolescente terminó siendo instrumento de muerte en un país que debería ofrecerle alternativas.
Carlos Manzo merecía servir sin miedo. Ese joven merecía una infancia alejada de la violencia. Ambos merecían un México diferente.
La pregunta sigue siendo la misma: ¿cuántos Carlos Manzo más? ¿Cuántos menores sicarios más antes de decir basta?
